pub night
Join us for Pub Night this Friday night (the 17th). We are gathering at Brazenhead in Grandview starting around 8pm (1027 West Fifth Avenue Columbus, Ohio 43212).

deacons’ assistants
God has provided two groups of office-holders to lead His church: Elders (who equip the people for ministry through teaching and prayer) and Deacons (who lead the people in the work of sympathy and service).

Our Book of Church Order says this about the duties of the Deacons:

“It is the duty of the deacons to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress. It is their duty also to develop the grace of liberality in the members of the church, to devise effective methods of collecting the gifts of the people, and to distribute these gifts among the objects to which they are contributed. They shall have the care of the property of the congregation, both real and personal, and shall keep in proper repair the church edifice and other buildings belonging to the congregation.”

In the near future, you, Grace Central will have the opportunity to elect your first Deacons.  Until that time comes, there is still much work to be done!  Your Elders are looking to gather a group of folks to assist Grace Central with some of the "deacon-ly" (that's a made-up word; the real word is "diaconal") ministry needs. This group will be called . . . wait for it . . . "Deacons' Assistants."  Creative, we know!

Now, you may be thinking -- "how can a group that we don't yet have already have assistants?"  Well, when Deacons do come on board, these folks will already be ahead of the curve in helping them carry out their duties. (It also may help to think of them as being from the future.)

This group will assume its responsibilities around September 1, 2009.

So how does one qualify to be a Deacons' Assistant? Glad you asked!  You have to be able to answer "yes" to both of the following questions...
1) Am I a man or a woman? (It gets harder after this.)
2) Am I a member of Grace Central Presbyterian Church?

Interested?  Have questions?  Then contact Rae Whitlock at , (614) 226-0660, or just talk to him before or after church.

church work saturdays
Still much to be done below us. We are expanding the nursery, removing junk, and framing drywall in the basement. We need your help! Show up around 8am on Saturday mornings to join us.
